Menstruation Data

Accurate entry of "M" data is required for accurate interpretation of the cycle.

I am trying to enter Menstruation History and when I press the minus button to reverse back to the first day of "M", the furthest date back in my history, the Lady Comp just beeps and won’t let me reverse the date.

It is likely you have confirmed some data in error. Delete data and reset the device.

To delete data: Proceeding from the current time display, press the plus button three times. Self-test will occur. When complete, the thermometer symbol will illuminate on the right hand side of the display. Then press all three buttons simultaneously until “L-9” appears in the display. Press the minus button 9 times. The unit will chime and the sample data will be restored to the device.

To confirm deletion of data: From the current time display, press the round center button once quickly. Fahrenheit display will show: “97.97 alternating with 14 (day of the cycle)”.

Proceed to re-enter “M” history, BMI and reset and re-activate the alarm.

How do I enter Menstruation History?

Proceeding from the time display:

  1. Press the round button once; temperature reading will flash alternately with the day of the cycle.
  2. Begin by entering the furthest date back. Press the minus button to reverse the date on the display until the desired date is displayed for the first day of your menstrual period.
  3. Press and hold the round button for 5 seconds; the “M” will flash.
  4. Press the plus button to confirm menstruation on the date.
  5. Proceed to the first day of your menstrual period the following month.
  6. Confirm menstruation as above.

How can I confirm that I have entered my “M” history correctly?

Proceeding from the current time display, press the round center button once. If a temperature reading has been measured for the day, you will see the reading alternating in the display with a number. The number should correspond to the number of days since your last, first day of menstruation.

How do I correct “M” data, I entered the wrong date as the first day of menstruation?

If you have been measuring the temperature each day you can only remove incorrect data that was entered within the last 3 days.

Proceeding from the current time display, press the round button once. Press the minus button until you see the first day of “M” data illuminated (most recent date). Press and hold the round center button until the “M” flashes; press minus. Next press the minus button once quickly; is the “M” illuminated; if yes, press and hold the round center button until the “M” flashes; press minus. Continue to press the minus button and remove all incorrect “M” data, from the most recent to the furthest date back.

If you are unable to correct “M” data because more than 3 days have passed, you must exercise caution for the remainder of the cycle, until you confirm the next new menstruation data. Use an alternate form of contraception (non-hormonal, such as barrier method) or abstinence on both red, yellow and green light days for the remainder of the cycle.

Alternately you could review your historical menstruation data and note the accurate first days of “M” in your history. You could then delete your data (see above-page 28 of instruction manual) and re-set the Lady-Comp as new, entering in the first days of “M” history. By doing this, you can be more confident that the data has been entered accurately and the lighting indications more reliable.

If you have entered incorrect “M” data, but have not begun to measure the daily temperature readings, you can remove all data as follows:

Proceeding from the current time display, press the round button once. Press the minus button until you see the first day of “M” data illuminated (most recent data).

When you re-enter the correct dates of “M” data, you will enter from the furthest date back proceeding to the most recent date of “M” data. Enter only one day of “M” when confirming historical data.

If you are entering current “M” data and measuring the daily temperature, you must confirm “M” for at least 3 consecutive days. You can confirm “M” for the length of your period for your own reference, but you must confirm at least 3 days for confirmation of actual menstruation.

Temperature Measurement

The alarm sounds in the morning, but the Lady-Comp will not initiate the temperature reading.

The thermometer symbol must be illuminated on the display (right side of clock display) when the alarm sounds in order to measure the daily temperature reading. The thermometer symbol will illuminate 3 hours before the alarm time and remain illuminated until three hours after or until a daily reading is measured.

The temperature reading time frame (6 hour) will need to be set for the initial reading and re-set on any day the temperature reading is missed (intentionally or not). It must be re-set before 12PM on the missed day so that you are able to measure the temperature again the next day.

To re-set the Temperature Reading Time Frame you must re-activate the alarm bell:

Before 12Pm the day of the missed reading; proceeding from the current time display:

Press the minus button twice. The bell will flash. Press the plus button. If you re-activate after 12PM, the time frame will not re-set and the thermometer symbol will likely not illuminate to allow for the reading the next day but will allow the reading the following day with no further action.

Do I have to re-set the alarm bell each day?

If a reading is secured each day, there is no need to re-activate the bell. It will continue to record the temperature each day without any further action.

Can I turn off the alarm?
I’m not used to waking with an alarm at the same time everyday.

Although you can turn off the alarm after the first reading, it is not recommended for women who are “new” to the method. If you forget to measure on any day within the 6 hour time frame, you must re-activate the alarm bell before 12PM so that the temperature reading time frame can be re-set for the next day’s reading. In most cases, women are not aware or forget and do not re-activate which results in multiple missed daily readings. Missing readings will result in a decrease in green light days which is frustrated to most women.

It is recommended to allow the alarm to wake you until the routine becomes established and it is less likely you will forget and miss a daily reading.

Lack of Green Lights (Infertile Days)

Why am I receiving so many red and yellow light days?

In a typical 28 day cycle, a woman can expect to receive between 8-10 red light days per cycle and the remainder will be green. Most of the red lights will occur in the days leading up to ovulation and for 48-72 hours after it has been confirmed.

An increase in red lights results when the ovulation is not detected in the cycle. Three factors can contribute this:

1. Missed Temperature Readings: If you miss a daily reading, especially near to ovulation time, the Lady-Comp cannot confirm the timing of fertile days in the cycle. You may not be aware that you missed the readings. To confirm that a temperature has been measured each day, proceed as follows:

From the current time display:
Press the round button once.
Today’s temp will flash alternately in the display with the current day of the cycle.
Press the minus button once.
Yesterday’s date will display with the day’s temperature reading.
Continue to press the minus button repeatedly, confirming that you see a temperature reading value for each day of history.

2. Anovulatory Cycles: It is common for women to experience an occasional cycle where no ovulation occurs. When this occurs, the Lady-Comp cannot isolate the fertile days of the cycle and will issue red and yellow lights as a precaution.

3. Ovulation not detected through typical temperature patterns: Some women do not experience a dramatic shift in the basal body temperature readings with ovulation. If this is the case, most women can still use the Lady-Comp effectively because it does measure the BBT very accurately to the 100th degree. In order to detect ovulation, it would be recommended for her to secure an accurate BBT each day at the same hour of day. Also, avoid any missed daily readings.
